Quote

Mola Ram (Amrish Puri) is the main antagonist of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Although he is the main antagonist of the film, he does not appear until the middle of the film. He was the high priest of the Thuggee cult and has made Pankot Palace his lair where he wants to use the five Sankara Stones to set up the reign of Kali. Mola Ram enslaved the children of a village in Pankot, India which had one of the three stones. They mine for the other two and for gems to fund his cause in chambers underneath the palace. He also brainwashes people, including local leaders, with the "blood of Kālī Ma," a magic potion that causes them to become religious followers, although they will be stopped if they are exposed to extreme pain, such as a burn. Indiana Jones eventually confronts Mola Ram over a nearby gorge, calling on the power of Shiva to use the Stones against the evil priest, who is burned by them and falls into the river where he is eaten by a bunch of crocodiles. In the novelization of the film, Ram's death is the same but he returns to normal when he burns his hand on the stone; Indy tries to pull him to safety but Ram falls to his death.
